They may have met during their time at NC State University, but it wasn’t until after graduation that Darius and Ariel struck up a real romance. After years of cheering each other on from afar, everything fell into place when Darius moved back to Charlotte in 2023. The two reconnected in person—and it’s been love ever since.
When You Know, You Know
They say when you know, you know, and for Darius and Ariel, this couldn’t be more true.
“When we first started dating, we had a very real and intimate conversation that set the foundation for our relationship … as we’ve grown together through faith, communication, and love, my confidence has only deepened,” Darius recalled. “I know without a doubt that she was made for me.”
Ariel echoed similar sentiments: “He has never left me feeling uncertain, overlooked, or unsure. With him, love feels steady. Safe. Intentional … Loving him has taught me what partnership truly feels like, and that’s how I know—he is the one.”
Shopping for the Ring
True to the team they are, the two visited a few jewelry stores together, browsing and dreaming about their future design. Darius paid close attention to the styles, sparkles, and shapes that caught her eye, going with an oval brilliant diamond. “I wanted a ring that truly embodied her essence and symbolized the depth and endlessness of our love,” said Darius.
Ariel loves the ring for more than the timeless shape: “…What means the most to me is the symbolism behind it. The Perfect Proposal
Nothing is better than a full circle moment! Darius popped the question at the Mint Museum in Uptown Charlotte—the same place they had their first date. The proposal incorporated Ariel’s love of stringed instrumental music and was as intimate and romantic as she’d always dreamed—just more proof of how well he knows his beloved.
“My favorite part came after I said yes,” explains Ariel. “He surprised me with a private dinner surrounded by both our families … having them be part of such a meaningful milestone made the moment even more special.”
