It all started on the streets in the small town of Roanoke, Virginia. Nathan Fink, a starving pharmacist in the midst of the Great Depression, started pushing a jewelry cart around the streets of downtown selling jewelry on credit. As his popularity increased, so did his need for a more permanent storefront. Thus, the first Fink’s Jewelers location opened its doors in 1930. In addition to fine jewelry and watches, the first Fink’s store prided itself on selling the “finest quality branded merchandise in America,” as quoted in their advertisements. Everything from Samsonite Luggage to Sunbeam kitchen appliances, Fink’s was the place to get the best merchandise around.
By the end of World War II, Fink’s became a family business. Nathan, joined by his son, Alvin Fink, grew the business into 6 additional communities. After Nathan passed in 1960, Alvin began focusing the business on fine jewelry and watches, exclusively. In 1969, the business expanded further south into Charlotte, North Carolina. Now, Fink’s Jewelers stretched across 2 states and many different cities.
Continuing the family tradition, it wasn’t long before Marc Fink, Alvin’s son, joined the business. Marc always knew he had a knack for sales. By the time he was in high school, he decided he would make his future in the family business. Never losing sight of the values his grandfather instilled in him, Marc concentrated on building a trustworthy business that offered the finest quality jewelry and watches available.
How far we’ve come…
As one of America’s “Top 50” jewelers, Fink’s now operates 15 stores throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. Standing strong behind our traditions, we take pride in offering the same quality, service and selection as the day we opened our first store. As the business grows, so does our vast selection of fine jewelry and Swiss timepieces. Fink’s Jewelers continues to offer the largest selection of the industry’s most sought-after brands.
In addition to designer jewelry and fine Swiss timepieces, we offer an expansive collection of the finest diamonds available. In fact, each and every diamond we carry is hand-selected using stringent grading requirements for Superior Cut©, color, clarity and carat weight – thus earning the Superior Quality© trademark. Not only is each Fink’s diamond of the finest quality, our rich history and 80 years of experience has given us the buying power to offer our customers the very best value with every purchase.
A Bright future ahead…
In order to continue building a bright future, Fink’s Jewelers understands the importance of serving the communities that have helped sustain us throughout the years. As a corporation, and as individuals, we make it a priority to give back to the communities we serve. Last year alone Fink’s Jewelers supported several worthwhile charities, including The Boys & Girls Club, Susan G. Komen, the American Heart Association, as well as schools and worship centers within each of our communities. And, that’s just a to name a few! Our sales associates also devote personal time to great causes that have special meaning and significance to them, such as animal rescue, Habitat for Humanity and Easter Seals.
With success comes growth. Continuing in our family tradition, we welcomed the 4th generation to the business in 2015. Matthew Fink, Marc Fink’s son, is now on board and learning all the ins and outs of the fine jewelry business. Matthew looks forward to working side-by-side with his father in helping the business continue to grow and better serve our customers. With such an exciting future ahead, it’s only natural to look back and appreciate the amazing people that helped make Fink’s Jewelers what it is today. From its humble beginnings as a one-store diamond merchant on wheels, to a booming multi-store fine jeweler, Fink’s Jewelers has come a long way. It’s a legacy Nathan Fink would be proud of.
